
Depression – a medical illness that negatively affects your emotions and alters your behaviour. Being plagued by sadness and loss of interest can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
There is a myriad of possible causes of depression, easily associated with stressful life events and medical problems.

Symptoms of Depression

Seasonal and Situational Depression
When we hear the word DEPRESSION, we often misunderstand the underlying causes. Not feeling like myself today? Let me just shake it off.
We must admit, sometimes, it is not that easy!
Seasonal Depression – social withdrawal, weight gain, increase sleep, feelings of hopelessness or unworthiness. Symptoms increase with changes in your body rhythm relating to seasons.
Situational Depression – the death of a loved one, life-threatening events, serious illnesses, divorce, abusive relationships, unemployment, legal troubles. If you realize that you are more anxious than always, having changes in sleep patterns, lacking energy, experiencing changes in appetite and is unable to concentrate. Seek help!!

For those who experience symptoms of depression, I know it is not that easy. Seeking help is the hardest part of it all; especially depending on our social background and culture.
- Talk to a friend
- Journal
- Meditate
- Exercise
- Socialize with friends and family
- Start a new hobby
- Make changes to your career
- Set goal and achieve them
- Reward yourself for your efforts
- Do something you enjoy doing – dancing, listening to music, singing
- Enjoy the outdoors
- Try something new
- Talk to a Counsellor, Therapist, or Life Coach
They all play a different role in the healing process
Start where you are, depression is common, and affects many of us, even without us realizing the changes at first. Check in with yourself often. Do not allow depression to creep up on you.
The most important thing is not to hide in the shadows, feel ashamed or depressed about your situation.
