Who Knew?

Who would have thought I’d marry my best friend?

Since childhood we were inseparable.

You always knew what to say to make me smile.

Looking back, I am tempted to think the Universe was aligned in our favour.

You always knew you held a special place in my heart.

But what was unfolding,

We didn’t see coming.

Who knew…

The day I fell in love with you,

Was the day I finally believed love was true.

You came by, as you normally do.

But today, both our feelings seemed mutual.

Hands behind your back,

I became intrigued,

You knew I loved surprises,

But this was beyond my wildest imagination.

Orchid, my favourite flower

Just one stem,

With a note, that read, “Open Me”,

I giggled, as I wondered what this mysterious envelope would reveal.

“Dear Sandi,

I remember as early as age 7

You’ve always been my best friend.

We laughed, we cried and spent every possible waking moment together.

As the years flew by,

And I watched you matured before my eyes

I knew I wanted to love you for a lifetime.

Today,

I mustered all the courage,

To tell you how I feel.

I knew I loved you since we were 7,

And today, I hope you’ll feel it too.”

Who Knew…

Fast forward 10 years later,

We are still happy together,

Still happy and in love.

Who knew where opening our hearts would lead?

Who knew where trusting our instincts would lead?

Who knew where taking a leap of faith would lead?

Who knew that I’d marry my best friend?

Who knew?

Who knew?

Love is powerful, and it surrounds us all day,

As we journey through life,

Take the time, to stop and smell the roses, literally.

You never know where your next great relationship lies.
